Communicable Disease Prevention Plan

Vancouver Island Exhibition

The purpose of this plan is for reference and guidance on measures to be taken to reduce the risk of communicable disease transmissions and ensure the safety of our staff, volunteers, vendors, entertainers, exhibitors, and patrons and will be maintained at all times and ongoing. This plan has been put together by Michelle Solloway who has been certified in the Go2HR’s BSAFE covid safety program and is based on the information available through WorkSafeBC. We will continue to monitor the WorkSafeBC and BC Health websites and update the plan if/when required to do so. This plan is effective starting July 1, 2021 and will stay in effect indefinitely.

  • All staff, volunteers and any other participants will be required to stay home if they are feeling ill. Shifts can easily be covered for someone feeling unwell. • Extra hand washing stations will be added throughout the grounds with signage on proper hand washing procedures. There will also be extra hand sanitizer throughout the grounds.

  • Additional cleaning procedures are in place for all high use or high touch areas. For entertainers, no mics will be shared between musicians and all equipment will be sanitized between each group.

  • Signage throughout the grounds reminding everyone to social distance, to sneeze or cough into their elbow and to wash their hands regularly.

  • A 3-Metre barrier will be in place at the main stage to separate the performers from anyone in the audience to reduce the risk of transmission. No seating will be offered, and patrons encouraged to bring their own chairs.

  • It will be recommended that everyone wear masks in any indoor spaces such as the livestock barns or washrooms. • Seating throughout the grounds will be limited and any seating at tables in the beer garden and food court will be separated by at least 2 metres.

  • This is considered a “flow through event” so regular capacity limits will be in place.

  • Announcements will be made regularly to remind all patrons of the rules and to respect other people’s personal space.

  • Physical barriers will be in place where necessary.

For clarification on any of these rules or if you have any concerns, you can contact Michelle Solloway at msolloway@viex.ca or by phone 250-755-6383.
