Director Of Maintenance Position Available

The Board of Directors is currently seeking an individual who is interested in becoming an integral part of Nanaimo’s biggest premier event in the City.  As part of this volunteer Board, the Maintenance Director joins 11 other hardworking volunteers that help guide and shape not only the largest 3 day agricultural fair on central Vancouver Island, but also helps continue the 123 year tradition of educating our community on the benefits of agriculture in our day to day lives.


The Director of Maintenance:

  • Is responsible for the year-round general upkeep and maintenance of the grounds, buildings, vehicles, and equipment for the Vancouver Island Exhibition.
  • Will help to determine an annual maintenance budget and will be responsible to keep expenditures within the approved plan.
  • Will supervise the maintenance crew
  • Will be responsible for organizing the set-up and take-down of the fair in Mid-August.


General maintenance and carpentry skills are required.  A clean and valid class 5 driver’s licence is a must.  Having a valid forklift licence would be an asset (payment of the forklift licence course will be provided).  Must be able to attend 2 Board meetings per month and weekly meetings in July and August prior to the start of the Fair and other events as needed.

This is an unique opportunity to participate in a local organization who gives back to the community.  For the remainder of 2017, the successful individual for this position will be appointed by the Board of Directors.  At the Annual General Meeting that will be held on January 4, 2018, this individual will be required to be elected by the general membership of the Association.
